Are Timeshares a Good Deal Or a Scam?
By Michael Baker

So let’s get right down to the actual question here: Are time shares a good deal or a scam? This is what everyone wants to know and rightfully so. You have probably also heard both sides of this argument as well. But, mainly you hear the good points from the people selling it and the bad points from someone who is not happy with their purchase. As an actual timeshare owner myself, I think timeshares are a good deal under the right circumstances.

First off, I will say this. If I was locked into the same week every year at the same resort, there is no way I would have bought a timeshare. I have the timeshare where my week floats to whatever I want. I also bought in at the 2 bedroom, red week share. This means I can call and reserve a 2 bedroom timeshare during the most popular weeks whenever I want (as long as it is available).

With that first hurdle gone, my reaction to buying a timeshare started to get a little curious. I actually started to listen to the guy. Another main point that sticks out is the fact of each room being in a 4 or 5 star resort and having a full kitchen. This is very helpful for the snacking, breakfasts, and even lunches. You will definitely save some money when eating in.

Price is always going to be a concern, and it was to me. But I bought in a well known area, but not an expensive area. I mean, I think we actually got a deal. We were OK with the initial price, but then for kicks, we negotiated down a bit and got a better deal. But even though we got a deal initially, if you don’t use it, it quickly becomes a bad deal.

This is why we use the timeshare every year, and also use what they call a getaway package each year as well. I mean, taking a vacation to a prime spot, staying in a 5 star hotel, for less than $400? You just can’t get this deal unless you access to these packages by being a timeshare owner.

The last thing I will say is this is not an investment. This is for vacations. If you are looking to flip this timeshare, or think you can start renting it out, do not buy it for that reason. While you may be able to do this, it is meant to be for vacations. If you can keep it this way, then you will know the time share is not a scam, and is in fact a good deal.

This Timeshare Guide will give you more information of what to look for and where to purchase your timeshares. There are even plenty of Outerbanks Timeshares that are available to stay at and even purchase. Overall, timeshares are the way to go.
